Our Workshop Curriculum: A Deep Dive Into IoT

This workshop, led by students from IIT Patna, is designed to take you from the basics of electronics to building a fully functional, voice-controlled smart home device.

Day 1: Electronics & Automation Basics

Learning Objectives

  • Grasp the fundamentals of Voltage, Current, and Resistance.
  • Learn to safely control high-power AC devices using relays.

Schedule of Activities

  • Hands-on Lab: Build a basic LED circuit to understand core concepts.
  • Practical Application: Use a relay to switch a lamp on and off.

STEM Concepts Covered

Basic circuitry, component interfacing, and the principles of automation.

Day 2: The Brains - Getting Started with ESP32

Learning Objectives

  • Successfully set up the ESP32 microcontroller and its programming environment (IDE).
  • Learn to interact with the ESP32 through a web browser.

Schedule of Activities

  • First Program: Write and upload a "Blink LED" sketch to test the setup.
  • Web Server: Host a simple web server on the ESP32 to control the LED.

Embedded systems, microcontroller programming, and basic web hosting.

Day 3: IoT - Connecting to the Web

Learning Objectives

  • Enable Wi-Fi based device control using REST APIs.

Schedule of Activities

  • Wireless Commands: Send HTTP JSON commands to the ESP32 to control an LED over Wi-Fi.

Internet of Things (IoT), wireless communication protocols, and API interaction.

Day 4&5: Capstone Project - The Smart Switch

Learning Objectives

  • Build a working, two-channel smart switch from scratch.
  • Create a fully operational home automation system with voice commands.

Schedule of Activities

  • Assembly: Put together all the hardware components for the smart switch.
  • Cloud & Voice: Focus on cloud connectivity and integration with Google Home/Alexa to enable voice control.
